Father and Son

Fathering Spirit

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you." Gen 12:1 NIV

Someone with a mothering spirit teaches those they lead to receive in an ever changing environment. Someone with a fathering spirit teaches those they lead to give, to fight for what is right, and to build. We all must learn to receive before we can learn to give; therefore, we all need both mothers and fathers. Mothering and fathering are character traits that transcend gender.

  • Fathers don't control or force their will on their sons. Fathers lead us from slavery to sonship.

  • Fathers lead primarily by encouragement, example, and instruction. Fathers don't always do it for us.

  • Fathers coach us to lead, to work independently, to teach ourselves and others, and to ask for help when we are stuck. Fathers wait for the person to initiate.

  • Fathers teach a person to heal, war, and build for themselves ... to cast out their own demons ... to turn to the Trinity to heal a memory ... to execute their own healing ... to build their own internal and external worlds. Fathers expect the person is becoming an independent fighter and builder.

  • Fathers train a person to diagnose their own problems and seek solutions. Fathers are available to assist when we get stuck.

  • Fathers use principles to build structures around us so that we can discover and unpack our designs. Fathers expect we will one day outgrow and leave their structures.

  • Fathers help us discover and unpack our design with full confidence that our design is of divine nature and fully capable of every good work. Fathers expect we will one day build structures to help others.
